Principles of a Strong Council -- The Beginning of a Conversation

Fellow Councilmember,

Over the next 120 days, I hope to have a conversation about how we can come together and become a strong Council.  Enclosed you will find an outline which I would like to use as a starting place for that conversation.  I look forward to extended dialogue on this subject at our board retreat.

I want to make this a collaborative process and involve various individuals with relevant expertise. To that end, I already have been receiving input from Sam Mamet of the Colorado Municipal League and will ask Bob Loevy to also assist us.

I also met with the President of the Denver City Council for input.  That input has been valuable to the conversation and I plan on continuing that.

I hope that this will involve rule changes only and that we can leave the charter changes for a later time.

These ideas are just that.  I welcome you input and any other ideas that you might have to make our Council more effective.

Thanks for your input.

Sincerely,

Keith King
